"X Marks the Spot" made easy

I am really busy this week so this is a quick post of my absolute favorite hairstyle.
I saw the "X" Marks the Spot post by Jenn over at Girly Do Hair Styles and fell in love with it immediately! The only problem; I really struggle with dutch braids. In order to pull off the look without the work, I began with seven rope braids. The top of each rope braid was started with a pull through using my trusty "topsey tail" to give it a more finished look.
I then gathered all her hair that was not included in the braids into a low pony and attached the rope braids to it. Everything after this point was the same that Jenn did~ laced it up with ribbon and made a messy bun. Since rope braids are fast and easy, this style actually didn't take that long. Aubrey wore this for the entire weekend and was still receiving compliments on Sunday.

  3. I can do the braids, it's the lacing that is intimidating to me. Although, I can see how your trick is faster. It looks so beautiful.

  5. Okay I will have to link this because that looks fantastic and I love how smooth it looks underneath the lacing--- I saw a little girl in the mall a few months back and got all excited about seeing this one out and about, because it does take a long time... so I like the idea of shortening the do time so that more people can use this style. I will be linking this one--- if that is okay :)

  6. Wow! Thanks for sharing! X Marks the Spot is also one of my all time favorite dos, but because it took me so long to braid it(I also struggle with braiding) and trying to make them straight, etc, I only did that hairstyle once for dd's soccer game. It turned out soooo cute, but haven't done it again due to the time factor. Can't wait to try this and shave off some minutes! It is sooooo beautiful and I agree with Jenn about liking how smooth the hair is under the lacing! Thanks again for sharing! :)

  7. Thanks for all the compliments! I forgot to mention that I actually made the braids and pony the night before so in the morning all we had to do was lace it up! I also have done it with five braids to start with and that saved time too! Thanks again!
Girly Do~ Of course you can link it ;)

  8. I am so happy you came up with this. I liked Jenns hair idea but the dutch braids are a little hard for me too. I am willing to actually give this one a try.

  10. I did this style for Easter Vigil and it turned out beautifully. I even made flower pins that I learned from Babes in Hairland, and I tucked those in the top of each twist braid where I did the pull through. It looked so sweet! Thanks again!
